The holidays are usually filled with an abundance of get-togethers whether it is an office party or family gathering, usually the occasion calls for a bit of dress-up. Although I am more than happy to see my clients for special occasion hairstyling, there are a few styles, that are chic and elegant and an easy DIY. First things first, you should start with a good foundation, come into the salon for a blowout either the day-of or the day before your event. A proper blowout will give you the texture and volume that allows you to be versatile: hair up, hair down, half-up half-down; you get the idea. If your vision includes curls, this is the time to have them done.

Once your hair has been properly prepared there are several possibilities. The tools that you’ll need are a brush, a few hair elastics and some bobby pins. If you want to go a step further you can always add your own embellishment like a hair band or barrette.

The Sleek Ponytail

Simple but sophisticated, the sleek ponytail is easy but elegant. From cosmopolitain.com here is a very straightforward tutorial.

Buns

Worn up high like a ballerina, off to one side, or loose and messy, if you can master the bun you can create a variety of looks.
