When it comes to skin care, hair and beauty it is no longer just for ladies especially when preparing for your wedding day. The word “groom” itself should be an indication that this is a time for men to step up their game.

With a quick Google search you can find an abundance of beauty guides and timelines for Brides, a few of my favourites are listed below, for Grooms information is sparse.

When it comes to grooming, there is a lot of ground to cover so I’m going to break it down into sections:

Skin

From the moment you get engaged you should start taking better care of your skin. Your face is going to be in a lot of pictures and you know your bride will be glowing beside you. If you have problem skin that you just haven’t been dealing with this is an opportunity to see a professional and start a proper skincare regime. On a very basic level men’s skincare should include, a cleanser, a moisturizer, an exfoliant and an SPF (you can get a moisturizer that offers this protection as a 2-in-1). If you are interested in skin correction such as a laser treatment to get rid of a brown spot or some "Brotox" to iron out a wrinkle, do it sooner than later. Never try a new treatment the week of your wedding.

Hair

When it comes to hair for men there is so much more than just the hair on the head that should be dealt with pre-wedding, eyebrows, facial hair and the rest of the body.

Starting with the hair on your head, if you are thinking of making a drastic change do so with enough time that you could grow back what you have if it doesn’t work out. Otherwise, stick with what you know and book a hair appointment for one week before your wedding day.

For your eyebrows and facial hair, there is no need to make any drastic changes - think tidy. Eyebrows should be shaped (not overly arched) and trimmed along with ear and nose hair. If you wear a beard, have it groomed, if you shave daily, your wedding day is no exception, treat yourself and your groomsmen to a professional shave.

When it comes to the rest of the body, your partner will appreciate some manscaping. If you don’t own a pair of clippers; buy some. If you are headed to a sun destination for your honeymoon, consider having a professional remove hair in the tough to reach places. Occasionally, people will have reactions to the products or treatments for hair removal; don’t wait until the last minute.

Hands and Feet

Your hands are about to become a focal point in photos whether it is a shot of handholding or the exchanging of rings. Get a manicure the week of the wedding and while you’re there you may as well get a pedicure too, you’ll come to appreciate it when you’re on your honeymoon.

Fragrance

On the day of your wedding don’t try to impress with a new fragrance. If you can remember what you were wearing on your first date or at the time of your first kiss, wear that. Scent becomes deeply woven into our memories and whatever fragrance you wear will forever take you back to that moment.
